WinUtilities Shortcuts Fixer

Download Shortcuts Fixer!

Introduction

Shortcuts are links to files stored in different folders and drives on your PC. The Windows Start Menu is made of shortcuts pointing to various files elsewhere on your hard drive. These shortcuts, when run, opens its corresponding application or document. Many a time, the 'targets' of these shortcuts are moved or deleted, leaving the shortcut pointing to a file or location that no longer exists. Such 'dead' shortcuts clutter your Start Menu and Desktop.

WinUtilities Shortcuts Fixer module provides you with an easy and convenient way to address these invalid shortcuts. It scans your system, finds all the invalid shortcuts and reports back to you so that you can remove it from your system.

How to use

  • Run WinUtilities and click the WinUtilities Shortcuts Fixer option from the System Optimizers category.
  • Now, on the next window, you can select the drives/folders to scan for invalid shortcuts.

    There are two options for scanning for invalid shortcuts:

    * Start Menu and Desktop: Use this option if you want to scan only the folders related to your Start Menu and Desktop.

    * All drives specified:
    Choose the drive(s) or folder(s) to scan from the list presented here.

    To include shortcuts that point to removable media like floppy drive, select "Scan all references to removable media" option.
  • After applying the necessary settings, it is now time to start scanning for invalid shortcuts. Click "Next". At some point if you decide to stop the scanning process, click the "Stop Scanning" button.
  • After scanning is completed, a list of invalid shortcuts found will be displayed. 'Check mark' those entries which you want to remove from your system. Properties: Opens the "Windows Properties box" for the shortcut.

    Open Folder: Opens the folder in which the invalid shortcut entry exists.

    Check All, Check None, and Invert Checks: Selects/de-selects an entry for deletion.
  • Click "Clean All" to move all the check-marked files to recycle bin.

WinUtilities Duplicate File Finder is a utility that identifies duplicate files in one or more paths. Unlike other utilities that only check file names, WinUtilities Duplicate File Finder performs a binary comparison of file contents and can locate files that are alike regardless of names.

WinUtilities Duplicate File Finder's scanning can be defined by path, file mask(s), and (optionally) with complex filters for size/date/attributes. Entire drive(s) can be scanned or specific path(s). Results can be copied to the windows clipboard or saved to a tab delimited file. Functions to delete files, launch Windows Explorer, and show file properties are available. The Windows Recycle Bin is used by default during deletions. You can also launch a file in the results list by double clicking. The results list is searchable and can be printed. The sort order of the results can be adjusted prior to generating the results.
