Why do you need WinUtilities File Shredder? Windows does not physically remove deleted files from your hard disk. Emptying your Recycle Bin does NOT protect you at all. Your sensitive files can be recovered, even after you format your hard disk! When you delete a file from Windows, the OS just marks the file as deleted in the file allocation table, but the data of the file is still on your hard disk. There are many tools available which can let others easily recover your sensitive files even after you format your hard disk. How does WinUtilities File Shredder protect your privacy? By overwriting the portion on the hard drive that was previously allocated to the files several times with junk data, WinUtilities File Shredder will completely erase files from your disk, without the possibility of recovery by any practical software or hardware methods. What do you want to delete? Once you start the program, a wizard windows opens that asks you if you wish to delete individual Files, entire Folders or the contents of the Recycle Bin.
Supported deletion method You can select the deletion method in the Options dialog. WinUtilities File Shredder will save the settings and apply it to the deletion process automatically. You can select one of the following methods:
The DoD 5223-22M File Deletion and Sanitization standard is the standard used for removing files in government agencies, as well as some military organizations. This method uses a variety of steps including overwriting the file many times with predefined binary patterns, then pseudo-random binary values, scrambling the file's date/time using randomly generated time patterns, renaming the file a random name and then deleting the file.
